How Warehouse Refrigeration Repair Works

The path from a warehouse cold storage call to product back at its setpoint.

Call or Request Online

Reach A-1 at 414-404-9739 or through the online form. Share the system (walk in, cold room, rack, glycol chiller or blast freezer), today’s temperature, how much product is at risk and how the equipment is reached. Anything holding product out of range is dispatched as an emergency.

Rapid Dispatch

A technician covering your part of the region is assigned, with product at risk handled first. For multi building sites, tell us where to check in and whether a lift or roof access is needed, so the technician arrives ready to work.

Diagnose & Repair

The technician traces the fault through the refrigeration system and the controls and power feeding it, from compressors, valves and coils to defrost controls, heaters and circuits. Refrigerant is recovered and handled under EPA Section 608 rules, using stocked parts wherever possible.

Test, Document, & Follow Up

Before sign off, the technician confirms the system reaches and holds its setpoint through a full defrost cycle, and documents the work for your records and audits. A-1 stands behind the repair, parts and labor, for 90 days.

Highly Skilled Technicians

Warehouse refrigeration calls go to technicians with Tech24 University training, EPA Section 608 certification for refrigerant work and hands on HVAC and electrical skills.

We Stock the Most Commonly Used Parts

Trucks are stocked with the parts warehouse refrigeration burns through most, including contactors, capacitors, fan motors, defrost heaters and timers, solenoid valves, door heaters and gaskets, so fewer calls need a second trip.

90-Day Guarantee

Warehouse refrigeration repairs are backed by A-1’s 90 day parts and labor guarantee. A repeat of the same problem inside those 90 days is fixed at no charge.

Planned Maintenance Programs

Scheduled visits cover coil cleaning, refrigerant and pressure checks, compressor and condenser inspection, defrost testing, door heater and gasket checks, and freezer floor heat verification, timed before winter and before summer.

All Refrigerant Types & System Configurations

HFC and HFO systems, split systems, rack and multiplex systems, and glycol chillers, from a single walk in to a multi box warehouse. For ammonia systems, we’ll tell you up front whether the work calls for an ammonia specialist.

Why won't my blast freezer pull product down in time?
URGENCYLIKELY CAUSES

High

Loading beyond rated capacity, blocked airflow around pallets, iced coils or a low refrigerant charge. Slow pulldown affects food safety and product quality. Load within the unit’s rating, leave airflow space and call if cycles keep running long.
Why is my compressor rack short cycling or tripping offline?
URGENCYLIKELY CAUSES

High

High head pressure from a dirty condenser, a failing contactor, low voltage or a control fault. When a rack trips, every box on it starts warming at once. Call immediately, and have the electrical supply checked along with the rack.
Why is my freezer floor cracking or heaving?
URGENCYLIKELY CAUSES

High

Freezer floors need heat or ventilation underneath to keep the ground from freezing. When the underfloor heat fails, the soil below freezes and expands, lifting and cracking the slab over time. Repairs to a heaved floor are expensive. Have floor heat checked every fall.
Why are my temperature alarms going off overnight?
URGENCYLIKELY CAUSES

Medium

A defrost cycle running long, a door left ajar, a failing sensor or a system losing ground to a refrigeration fault. Overnight alarms caught early prevent a morning of lost product. Log alarm times and call if they repeat.
Why is my insulated panel box sweating or icing on the outside?
URGENCYLIKELY CAUSES

Medium

Damaged panels, failed seams or a broken vapor seal letting cold escape and moisture condense on the outside. It wastes energy and can rot framing and floors. Have seams resealed and damaged panels assessed.
Why is my glycol chiller losing cooling capacity?
URGENCYLIKELY CAUSES

Medium

Glycol concentration that has dropped, a fouled heat exchanger, a failing circulation pump or a refrigeration fault in the chiller itself. Breweries, dairies and cheese warehouses rely on steady glycol temperature, and drifting loops affect product quality. Test the glycol and call if temperatures climb.
Why does my cooler run constantly when the dock doors are open?
URGENCYLIKELY CAUSES

Medium

Damaged dock seals or shelters, torn strip curtains, a failed air curtain or doors left open during long loads. Warm, humid air pours in and the system can’t catch up. Repair the seals and curtains and keep door open time short.
Why do my freezer evaporators ice over between defrosts?
URGENCYLIKELY CAUSES

Medium

A failed defrost heater, timer or termination sensor, or heavy door traffic bringing in moist air faster than defrost can clear it. Iced coils choke airflow and product warms. Watch for coils that stay white after defrost and call before the box loses temperature.

Do you offer cold storage and industrial refrigeration repair in Oak Creek and Milwaukee?

Yes. A-1 Services Group, based in Oak Creek, repairs cold storage and industrial refrigeration systems across southeastern Wisconsin, from Milwaukee and Waukesha to Racine, Kenosha County.

We work with distribution centers, food warehouses, breweries and beverage distributors, and dairy and cheese operations, with 24/7 service when product is at risk.

Does A-1 service large warehouse systems, or just walk ins?

Both. Along with walk in coolers and freezers, A-1 services cold storage rooms, blast freezers, compressor and multiplex racks, glycol chillers and rooftop units. Ammonia systems are assessed case by case, and we’ll tell you if the work calls for an ammonia specialist.

Tell us the size and type of your system when you call so the right technician and equipment are assigned from the start.

Can you support refrigeration at several distribution sites?

Yes. A-1 can put multiple warehouses on one account with one number, one maintenance schedule and shared service records, whether your sites are in Milwaukee, Waukesha and Kenosha County.

For locations outside the region, A-1 is part of Tech24’s national service network, which can coordinate service with a single point of contact.

Do you offer 24/7 emergency response for cold storage?

Yes. A warehouse refrigeration failure can put a full inventory at risk within hours, so A-1 answers emergency calls 24/7 and prioritizes product at risk.

While you wait, keep doors closed, consolidate product into boxes that are holding temperature, and consider refrigerated trailers for large volumes. Tell dispatch your current temperatures so the technician knows how urgent it is.

What happens if a replacement part isn't on the truck?

The technician explains exactly what’s needed, how soon it can arrive and what can be done in the meantime to protect product. That may mean a temporary repair, moving product to boxes that are holding or bringing in a refrigerated trailer.

For critical systems, ask about keeping key spare parts on site, such as a spare condenser fan motor or contactor, so a common failure never waits on shipping.
