OUR APPROACH

Rather than dropping you into a standard package, here's how we build your program:

Doing right by customers is part of how A-1 has operated for more than 20 years. Our technicians are told to recommend only what a business actually needs, not what fills a service schedule.

  • Walk your kitchen and identify which equipment is worth putting on a program.
  • Talk through how hard each unit runs, your budget and anything else that shapes the plan.
  • Set how often we visit and what each visit covers, with timing around heating season and summer.
  • Build the program to fit: one critical unit, a category such as refrigeration, or the kitchen plus the rooftop units.
  • Show up on schedule, run the safety checks (loose wires, frayed cords, gas leaks) and complete the service the equipment needs.

SIMPLE, FAST, RELIABLE

How Planned Maintenance Works

What to expect from the first phone call to your first scheduled visit.

Call or Request Online

Call 414-404-9739 or send a request online and ask about putting equipment on a program. No breakdown required, and the best time to ask is long before one.

Custom Program Built

We size the program to your equipment, how hard it runs, your budget and your seasons, then set frequency and scope, from a single ice machine to the whole kitchen and the rooftop units above it.

Scheduled Service Visits

Technicians arrive on the agreed date, run the safety checks, and complete whatever service the equipment calls for. Visits land during your quieter hours, never in the middle of service.

Test, Document, & Follow Up

Each visit is written up, giving you a running record of every unit’s condition for budgets, warranty questions and inspections, and we circle back to keep the schedule on track year to year.

Highly Skilled Technicians

Tech24 University training covers cooking, refrigeration, HVAC and electrical work, so a single maintenance visit can take in the cook line, the walk in, the rooftop unit and the panel feeding them.

We Stock the Most Commonly Used Parts

Worn parts turn up on nearly every maintenance visit, so trucks carry the factory specification parts most often needed: gaskets, belts, filters, igniters and contactors, ready to swap during the same stop.

90-Day Guarantee

Repairs made during a maintenance visit carry A-1’s 90 day parts and labor guarantee. Should the same problem reappear inside 90 days, we return and correct it at no cost.

Thorough, Multi-Point Inspections When You Need It Most

Inspection coming up? We can prepare for it with burner inspection, thermostat calibration, refrigeration temperature checks, gasket checks, gas pressure testing and a genuine cleaning rather than a quick look.

All Fuel Types & Configurations

Gas, electric, propane and dual fuel, we service every configuration, on atmospheric and infrared burner systems, plus the rooftop heating and cooling and electrical circuits your equipment depends on.

Why wasn't a gas leak found sooner?
URGENCYLIKELY CAUSES

High

Connections loosen and flex lines wear, particularly on equipment rolled out for cleaning, and nothing announces it. Scheduled safety inspections are where these are normally caught. A gas leak is both a fire risk and a health risk, so every A-1 visit includes a gas check.
Why did we fail an inspection over equipment temperatures?
URGENCYLIKELY CAUSES

High

Coolers drifting past 41°F or hot holding slipping under 135°F. The drift is gradual, which is exactly why it goes unnoticed until an inspector documents it. Calibration checks on every maintenance visit catch it first.
Why does equipment always seem to fail on the first cold night or the busiest weekend?
URGENCYLIKELY CAUSES

High

Hard, sustained use and sharp weather swings expose wear that a quiet week hides. Wisconsin’s first hard freeze tests heating, make up air and outdoor refrigeration on the same night, and emergency calls then often carry overtime rates. A visit before the season finds the weak points first.
Why did a small repair turn into a big invoice?
URGENCYLIKELY CAUSES

High

Faults caught late cost more. A belt that slips quietly takes a motor with it; a condenser nobody cleaned takes the compressor, the single most expensive component in the system. By discovery time, the damage has usually spread.
Why is unplanned downtime costing more than we expected?
URGENCYLIKELY CAUSES

Medium

Repair only means the equipment picks the day, usually your busiest, and the bill arrives with overtime rates and spoiled product attached. Maintenance shifts that work to a quiet morning you choose.
Why did equipment die years before it should have?
URGENCYLIKELY CAUSES

Medium

Cleaning, calibration and inspection that never happened wear out components that were built to last. Hard water accelerates it, scaling elements, ice machines and boosters. Maintained equipment usually reaches its rated life; neglected equipment rarely gets close.
Why does the same piece of equipment keep breaking down?
URGENCYLIKELY CAUSES

Medium

Gaskets wearing, connections loosening and coils clogging go unseen without scheduled inspection, and each one compounds the next. The unit fails again because nobody addressed what was actually wearing out. One planned visit finds it; repeat service calls keep billing for it.
Why is my energy bill higher than it should be?
URGENCYLIKELY CAUSES

Low

Coils caked with dust, clogged filters and tired door seals force equipment to run longer for the same result, and refrigeration, ice machines and rooftop units feel it first. Cleaning and gasket replacement bring run times, and bills, back down.

The best repair is the one you never need. Let’s build a program around your kitchen.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Preventative Maintenance FAQ

Answers to the questions we hear most about planned maintenance. Don’t see yours? Give us a call.

Can I put only some equipment on a program?

Entirely your call. A program can cover one machine, a single category such as refrigeration or ice, or the whole operation including rooftop HVAC and electrical checks.

Most operators begin with whatever would hurt most to lose: walk ins, ice machines and the fryers or ovens the menu depends on. The rest usually follows once they see how it goes.

How much does planned maintenance actually save?

It varies with your equipment and how you run it, but the savings come from three places: fewer emergency calls at overtime rates, less product and service time lost, and equipment that lasts longer before it needs replacing.

The honest way to estimate it is to look at your last year of repair invoices. A-1 will go through them with you and point out which failures a program would likely have caught.

Do you offer planned maintenance across southeastern Wisconsin?

Yes. A-1 provides preventative maintenance from its Oak Creek office across the Milwaukee area, Waukesha, Racine and Kenosha counties.

Programs work for a single location or several, with one schedule and one set of records. For locations beyond the region, A-1 is part of Tech24’s network, which can coordinate service elsewhere.

What does a planned maintenance visit cover?

Safety checks on every visit (loose wires, frayed cords, gas leaks), plus service matched to your equipment: burners and thermostat calibration on the hot side, coil cleaning and gaskets on refrigeration, sanitizing on ice machines, filters and belts on rooftop units, and gas pressure testing.

The technician records each unit’s condition and points out parts that are wearing, so you replace them on your timeline instead of during a breakdown.

How do you tailor a program to my kitchen?

We begin with your equipment list, how hard each unit runs, your budget and your busiest stretches, then set frequency and scope, whether that’s a handful of critical units or the kitchen plus HVAC.

A year round supper club and a seasonal venue need different schedules. Most Milwaukee area kitchens land on quarterly or twice yearly visits, timed around heating season and summer.

When should a Wisconsin business schedule maintenance visits?

Book one visit in early fall, before heating season, to check burners, heat exchangers, make up air, low ambient controls on outdoor refrigeration and heat trace. Book the second in spring, before summer, to clean condenser coils and test cooling and ice production.

Those two windows catch most of the failures that would otherwise happen on the coldest night or the hottest weekend of the year, when service demand peaks and repairs cost the most.

PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE

Stop Breakdowns Before The Season Turns

Fewer surprise breakdowns, lower repair bills and equipment that lasts longer, that’s what an A-1 Services Group program delivers. We cover kitchens and facilities throughout southeastern Wisconsin, and when something does come up between visits, the same local technicians answer 24/7.
